Rome - Day 2 - Part 1

Another day of pounding the pavements, but a bit less exhausted at the end of it than yesterday - are we getting fitter?

Most of our sights today were Roman buildings we have been familiar with from schooldays.  In the flesh, there are more of them and they are much bigger than we had imagined.  The Romans, of course had concrete - and they used it with the same enthusiasm as their heirs of present day Italy.

Although some of the photos don't show many people, there were in fact many visitors around, especially at the Colosseum, although the scale of the buildings meant it never was too crowded.  It must be a different matter in the summer - many more people, much more heat ...
