Trasillico and farther

Yesterday we repeated a walk we did last year, starting from Trasillico which is high up and opposite us across the Serchio valley.  With the sun low at this time of year, and short day length, we have to try to do south-facing walks - not always easy.  This path took us over a ridge and into the sunshine on the west-facing slopes of the Alpi.  A lovely day.

A magical morning scene - especially when we know the mist will clear!
Trasillico basking in the sun
The sun's rays play on the smoke from the woodcutter's fires
A close view of the Pania della Croce (went up it last year) and the Pania Secca on the right (will never be up it!)
Pathetic attempt at a "clockwork shot" of the two of us ...
Trasillico in the evening light

And a placid sky as the sun goes down over the valley

  1. beautiful weather over there! and of course you can go up the Pania Secca! it is less strenous than Pania della Croce. Best to wait till spring, and go on a weekend, when the Rifugio Rossi is manned and there are other hikers around. The path is marked by small cairns, rather than by the white and red painted signs. Not dangerous nor difficult, provided you keep on the path!

  2. OK Pietro - thank you for that! Perhaps we will have a closer look after all - when the spring comes!
