Piegaio and Pascaglia

We visited these villages on Wednesday - they are on the other side of the valley, and more towards the Lucca end of the Serchio valley.  On the train to Lucca, we pass the station of Diecimo-Pescaglia, and the valley these villages are in has always intrigued us.

Piegiao was small, well-kept and rather lovely; Pascaglia was bigger, very ancient and had a rather neglected feel which is actually quite rare.  On getting home, I discovered that I hadn't taken any photos of Pescaglia - also very rare!  Perhaps I'm just saturated with photos of small hilltop towns ...

Before leaving we went along to the farm for cheese - today's batch was already in the steamer
In Piegaio, an old paper mill has been converted into housing.  The large windows were used to dry the paper sheets in the old days
This old bandsaw was much more picturesque than its glossy modern counterparts!
A view up the valley from Piegaio towards Pascaglia
Piegaio (note to self - sit up straight when modelling medieval streets ...)
The crocuses are out over this side - none around us so far though ...
