The night before last we had some serious wind - Orkney style. Prolonged winds are not a feature of Barga's climate, and such very strong winds are extremely unusual. As a man inspecting the damage in the land below us said "un disastro - mai succede, mai!" - this never happens, never. The wind was very cold, and the weather has been a bit colder - it seems that this is due to a stream of "Arctic air".
Apparently the winds have cut a swathe across all of central Italy, and the most visible effect has been uprooted trees. We had a brief power cut in the middle of the night, then the power went off mid-morning, and stayed off for almost 24 hours - so we had to get the candles out!

| Half a dozen mature cypress trees were toppled in the garden just below us |
 |
| These mature lime trees in nearby Via Cesare Biondi at least fell away from the road, the four further down the hill fell across the road, and had been cut up by the time we saw them |
 |
| Large fallen trees are bad for power lines ... |
 |
| Plenty snow yet on the higher tops of the Appenines |
it would have been nice if some fallen tree had distroyed the power cable that spoils the view from our house towards barga...
ReplyDeleteI never thought of that! I could have crept out at the height of the gale with the chainsaw and helped it along a bit! Prossima volta ...
