Lucca and Giotto

As the convent of San Francesco is hosting the first ever showing of a painting by Giotto in Lucca in 700 years, it seemed a good time for a visit.  We hired bikes, the rain stayed away all day, and the Giotto was wonderful - a good day, then.
Seen from the wall - our destination, the convent of St Francis.  Note Apuan Alps in distance
Trees turning in the botanic garden, seen from the wall
Giotto's Madonna di San Giorgio alla Costa (no photography inside!)
A couple admire an orange tree near the Guinigi Tower (note small woodland planted on top of tower - very strange)
The sun came out and illuminated the cathedral tower just as we were leaving
