Leaving Barga ...

Although we are now on a two-week trip away, there were a couple of photos that seemed to need publishing!  Pietro and Marijke are to be here for a couple of weeks, so that dovetailed nicely with our planned trip to Umbria.

We were getting bread recently in the shop run by a Scottish-Italian.   He has a corner called his Scots Corner which has good things from home - like Bird's custard, and tins of beans.  Imagine our surprise to see a new addition - Stockan's Oatcakes from Stromness.  Amazing - "of all the gin joints in all the world ..."

Then recently, we found that a recent thunderstorm had knocked down our telephone pole, so Pietro, who had just arrived, had to get onto Telecom Italia, who appeared within 24 to replace it - quick work.

Later we all went out to fellow Scots Ron and Suzi who have been running a B&B in Barga for about ten years for an evening meal.

Next morning, Pietro and Marijke kindly took us to the railway station, allowing us to leave the car at the house.

I'll have to tell him that actually the thick ones are better ...
The man up the pole knows it's safe - he just installed it ...
Merriment after Pietro cracks a joke to liven up proceedings
A rainy day at Lucca station - note railway workers working on the line - with Brollies - and a rare sou'wester!
