Another good day ...

With the weather staying fine, and no Italian classes to attend, we decided to head for the Appenine ridge above Renaio.  It is a bit late in the year to climb to the Porticciola, which is a pass of height 1700m(5577ft), but there has been no snow to speak of even on the mountains, and it has been dry lately, so conditions were favourable.  There was some snow higher up on the slopes of Monte Giovo, which deterred us from any heroic ascents!

Just above the tree-line
Monte Giovo in the background
The path gets a bit more exciting as it snakes along to the Porticciola in middle distance, with the mountains of Emilia-Romagna in the background
... and therefore some sustenance was needed before continuing
Quite a cloudscape as we look back on the Garfagnana and the Apuan Alps in distance
Another ancient trackway - the Saltello Road - branches of the path we were on
Back in the beech woods as we continue the descent to the rifugio of La Vetriccia

  1. My god, what a nice weather, beauitiful mountains, blue skies, we're a bit envious as here it is grey and wet!
